on 4 February, 2019 HollyBolly caught up with Artist James to talk to him about his craft as an actor and martial arts artist. Where were you born? James: I was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon, USA. Please tell us about the reality TV show you were part of. James: I was on season 16 of The Ultimate Fighter where 32 MMA fighters compete for a contract for the UFC. You were also part of a short film ... what was your role in it? James: I was the main character and a Muay Thai fighter How is filming for TV and for a short film different, in your opinion? James: TV involves a lot of established characters and has a less definite structure. They're both fun. What made you take up Muay Thai? James: I took up Muay Thai because I thought it would improve my MMA game and Thailand seemed the perfect place to train Muay Thai. There’s more learning in failure than success. You say you faced a humiliating fight in the MMA. What has the sport taught you about yourself? James: It's taught me that I'm durable, physically and emotionally, and it's taught me that hard work and consistency can take you a long way Has your exposure to different cultures helped you expand your artistic talents? James: I think my exposure to other cultures has made me better as a human being overall, including artistically. New perspectives are very valuable. “Living well is done intentionally, it takes effort and thought” How do you practice your philosophy in everyday life? James: I practice living well by constantly trying new things and limiting the amount of time I am idle. It's always easier to relax and play on the phone or do something comfortable. Instead of that I read, write, study language, and practice music.
