American rapper, singer, songwriter and producer Calvin Broadus Jr, known to the world as Snoop Dogg, made his Bollywood debut with a guest appearance on the title track of the blockbuster film Singh Is Kinng (2008).
He announced his arrival with the words 'What up to all the ladies hanging out in Mumbai!' and went on to create a peppy track with Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar. The song 'Singh is Kingg' contains many bhangra elements, but still remains undeniably hip-hop. Snoop raps about topics like expensive cars, beautiful women and flashy jewellery, layering it with Punjabi beats and lyrics to create a hit number. The song video also features Snoop Dogg wearing a turban and a an Indian sherwani. He also picked up a few bhangra steps during the shoot! Snoop Dogg further told the Times, 'I like how the Punjabis get down; they got a real appreciation for music.'
